The 2026 Mongolia Society Annual Meeting and Panels

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The Mongolia Society’s 2026 Annual Meeting will be held October 2-3, 2026, at Western Washington University, in Bellingham, Washington.

Western Washington University has been a leader in Mongolian Studies for more than fifty years. Beginning in the 1970s under the leadership of Professor Emeritus Henry G. Schwarz and the East Asian Studies program, the university developed courses in Mongolian history, culture, language, and literature, including a pioneering language program at Inner Mongolia University in the 1980s. In honor of Prof. Henry G. Schwarz, long-time professor of Mongolian Studies at Western Washington University and past President of The Mongolia Society, the Society especially welcomes papers related to his areas of research, including globalization and Mongolia, ethnic minorities in Mongolia, ethnic Mongols in China, Buryats, and Mongolian Studies collections in libraries around the world.

The Society also welcomes abstracts on topics in the humanities, arts, education, and social sciences related to Mongolia, as well as on collaborative research projects involving Mongolian scholars and their colleagues abroad.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Abstracts for individual papers or organized panels must be submitted by July 19, 2026. Abstracts should be no longer than 300 words and must include the paper title and presenter contact information (email address and telephone number). Accepted presenters will have 20 minutes to present their papers.

The conference will be fully hybrid, and both in-person and virtual participation are welcome. Papers presented at the meeting will be considered for publication in Mongolian Studies.

PRESENTERS AND MEMBIPERSHIP

Presenters must be members of The Mongolia Society in order to present a paper. Membership information is available at the Membership page.

We ask those attending or presenting at the conference to pay an attendance fee to help defray the cost of organizing the meeting.

NEW MEMBER SPECIAL

New members who join The Mongolia Society and pay the Annual Meeting Attendance Fee at the same time qualify for a discounted combined rate.
